A CCNP refers to a Cisco
certified network professional; a professional working in the IT sector who has
received a Cisco-based career certificate. The certification means that the
person is qualified to work on Cisco systems and products to an advanced level.
What does a CCNP do?
A CCNP works on Cisco
networks to deal with troubleshooting, implementation, or verification. A CCNP
may have a specialization such as wireless or security, for example. Those with
CCNP certification may go into a number of different roles from IT manager to
the network engineer.
How do You Become a CCNP?
Becoming a CCNP requires an
intricate career path and putting in the hours (to reap the rewards later)!
You’ll need to take an ICND1 exam and an ICND2 exam. Once both are passed with
flying colors, you’ll need to take the CCNA Routing and Switching
Certification. The fun doesn’t stop there, for the next step you’ll need to
take the following three exams:
- 300-101
Route: Implementing Cisco IP Routing.
- 300-115 Switch:
Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks.
- 300-135
Tshoot: Troubleshooting and Maintaining Cisco IP Networks.
Recent Updates to CCNP Route
Cisco recently announced
that from February 24, 2020, there will be some updates to the CCNP training
program. In this new program, CCNP Routing and Switching certification will be
adjusted to a CCNP Enterprise program. As it stands, those already working towards
the CCNP should continue and will still receive credit for work completed once
the changes are in place.
How much does the CCNP Exam
Cost?
You can retake each exam if
you fail one (yet you’ll have to pay out again, so it’s best to avoid this)! As
it stands the ICND1 and the ICND2 cost $125 each. The CCNA exam costs $300 as
do each of the three exams that follow ( Route, Switch and Tshoot).
CCNP vs CCNA?
A CCNA refers to a Cisco Certified
Network Associate. By having this
certification, the candidate proves that they can manage high-level network
solutions. A CCNP is a higher certificate which determines one’s skills
to be more advanced in terms of networking.
The difference between CCNA
and CCNP exists in the fact that the CCNA Certification works to test the
individual on routing and switching. The CCNP further requires gaining a full
understanding of LANS and WANS. The CCNP is regarded as the higher-level
certification due to the more thorough study of networking principles
involved.
With a CCNP, you’ll need to
hold a CCIE or CCNA certification. With the CCNA, there is no such prior
certification needed. You’ll take four exams to gain a CCNP and two for the
CCNA. On an Average CCNP salary ranges from $49,121 per year
